Body found

Thiruvananthapuram: The decomposed body of a middle-aged woman was found under the Poovampara bridge on Vamanapuram river in the Attingal police station limits on Thursday evening. The body, yet to be identified, has been kept at the Medical College Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. The police have registered a case of unnatural death. — Staff Reporter

Wins overall championship

Thiruvananthapuram: The Government school for the visually challenged functioning in Thiruvananthapuram has won the first place and overall championship among Government schools in the that category in the ninth State Special Schools Youth Festival held at Alappuzha on January 22 and 23. It secured 70 points. — Special Correspondent

One held on extortion charge

Thiruvananthapuram: The police have arrested a 39-year-old man on charges of extortion. The accused was identified as Mappila Babu alias Jayakumar, a history-sheeter according to Thampanoor police records. An official said he was arrested on the basis of a complaint given by an STD booth owner in S.S. Kovil Road. The accused was produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. — Staff Reporter
