BANGALORE: A debt-ridden man's wife and daughter committed suicide by hanging themselves at their house in Vijayanagar police station limits. The police said that Chandramma (47) and her daughter Bhuvaneshwari (25) were found dead in their house at Shantaveri Gopalagowda Nagar in Modalapalya on Thursday morning. They had hanged themselves with a sari. According to the police, Chandramma's husband Seenappa, a worker, was addicted to single-digit lottery. He had borrowed money from several people and lost it in the lottery. As Seenappa had been at large for the past two months, those who had lent him money were pestering his wife to repay the loan. Thus, an upset Chandramma and her daughter committed ended their lives, the police said. The Vijayanagar police have registered a case.
Killed in accident
Ramakrishna (45), an autorickshaw driver and a resident of Lingarajapuram, died after he was allegedly slapped by a fellow autorickshaw driver in Banaswadi police station limits on Wednesday night. The police said that after a drink, Ramakrishna and Rafiq were sitting in front of a shop on Masjid Road in Lingarajapuram. Following an argument, Rafiq allegedly slapped Ramakrishna. As Ramakrishna fell unconscious he was taken to a hospital and he was declared brought dead by the doctors, the police said. The Banaswadi police have registered a case of murder and arrested Rafiq.
Serial accident
Three pedestrians were injured after a van ran amuck on Peenya Ring Road around 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday. The police said the van driver Lokesh, who was drunk, was driving towards Jalahalli from Laggere. After hitting three pedestrians on the Ring Road, he rammed a multi-utility vehicle near TVS Cross. Enraged by the accidents, passers-by pulled Lokesh out of the van and thrashed him. The three injured pedestrians, Chowde Gowda, Mohan and Raghu, had been admitted to hospital and they were out of danger, the police said. The Peenya traffic have seized the van and arrested Lokesh.
Robbed
Two men waylaid Vijayendra in Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits on Wednesday night and robbed him of a mobile phone and Rs. 1,000 in cash at knifepoint. The police said the incident occurred around 9 p.m. near Gelayara Balaga Circle while Vijayendra was walking towards his house in Nandini Layout. The Mahalakshmi Layout police have registered a case.
