HYDERABAD: Elections to the Municipal Corporations of Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry and the Hindupur Municipality will be held on February 19, according to a notification issued by the State Election Commission here on Thursday. Nomination papers of candidates will be accepted from January 27 to February 2 and they will be scrutinised on February 3. The last date of withdrawal of papers is February 6 while polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 19. Counting of votes will be taken up from 8 a.m. on February 21. The indirect election of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson will be held on February 26 for which a separate notification would be issued. Releasing the poll notification, State Election Commissioner A. V. S. Reddy told reporters that the respective district Collectors, who are the Returning Officers, would issue separate special notification on January 27. Mr. Reddy said that the model code of conduct would be in force only in the corporation and municipality limits and not in the entire district. However, the Government was barred from announcing any new schemes or programmes in these civic bodies, he added.
