Elder left to fend for himself

`A victim of sealing drive without breaking any law'

NEW DELHI: Apathy on the part of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Jal Board and BSES authorities has made life miserable for sexagenarian Jagdish Lal Mehta who is being forced to live without electricity and water for no fault of his.

Mr. Mehta (68) has been living on the second floor of B/33, Lajpat Nagar-II since 1973. Last December 8, a ground floor shop in his building was sealed by the MCD for misuse.

The next day, the Delhi Jal Board and BSES authorities disconnected the water and power connections of the building without realising that Mr. Mehta too was getting supply from the same source.

"For over a month now I have been living without power and water. As I am living alone, I have to bring water in bottles for my consumption from a nearby temple," said Mr. Mehta.

He added that he even approached the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee member K. J. Rao about two weeks ago who agreed that there was an error on the part of the three agencies and asked him to approach them to get the power and water supply restored.

"I have already submitted an affidavit to the MCD Deputy Commissioner (Central Zone) urging him to direct the DJB and the BSES to restore my water and power connections. I have even submitted separate applications with the two agencies for the same, but still nothing has happened so far," he added.
