Bangalore: Satnam Singh and A. Vijila won the men's and women's 800m respectively in the 67th all-India inter-University athletic championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Friday. Gurunanak Dev University's Satnam clocked 1:52.30 seconds as he edged past Andhra University's Bangaraiah (1:52.90s) and Nagpur University's Prakash Verma (1:53.17s).

Meanwhile, MG University's Vijila clocked 2:10.95s and maintained the lead over her teammate S.R. Bindu (2:12.05s) and Kerala University's Prency Thomas (2:12.56s).

A new meet record was set, though in a qualifying round, as Himachal Pradesh University's Sanjo Devi hurled the javelin to 50.73m while securing a berth in the final.

Sanjo's feat erased the earlier meet mark of 49.41m set by MG University's Prajisha in 2005.

Meanwhile, in the 100m semifinals, Kerala University's S. Arunjit clocked the fastest timing of 10.73s in the men's section while on the distaff side, V. Shijila of Kannur University emerged the fastest with a time of 12.16s.

Birji Jyothi of Karnatak University (Dharwad) also set a new meet record in the women's triple jump qualifiers.

Jyothi jumped 12.84m and erased the earlier record of 12.79m set by Salaman Antony of MG University in 2005.
