Bangalore: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) Secretary, Lalit Bhanot, said that about 26 athletes would be sent to South Africa to train as part of the long-term preparation for the 2008 Olympics. "The athletes are primarily from disciplines we have identified as focus areas for the Olympics like the women's 4x400m relay, discus, heptathlon, long jump and men's 4x400m relay and discus. They should be leaving for South Africa before February 5," Bhanot told the media on the sidelines of the 67th all-India inter-University athletics championship here on Friday. The AFI secretary also expressed satisfaction over India's performance at the Doha Asiad. "We were looking at 14 medals in athletics, but ended up with 10. However, in terms of performance like the timings registered, I think the athletes did well though the competition was far too tough," Bhanot said. Principal Correspondent
