Badminton
K. Keerthivasan
PATNA: There is a sureness to Anup Sridhar's movements. He covers the court extremely well, takes the shuttle quite early, looks sharp at the net, and knows pretty much when to go for the kill. More than anything else, he is a delight to watch for the sheer elegance he brings to the game. The 23-year-old two-time defending champion from Bangalore seems to be the best on view at the BSNL Senior National badminton championships. At the Secretariat Sports Club here on Friday, Anup (PSPB) eased into the quarterfinals with a 21-16, 21-12 win over Utsav Mishra (Air-India). Former champion Chetan Anand (PSPB) controlled the proceedings from the beginning to subdue Air-India's Sagar Chopda 21-16, 21-10 in exactly 30 minutes to enter the last eight.
Anand struggles
Anand Pawar of Air-India struggled to overcome J.B.S. Vidyadhar of Andhra Pradesh in the men's pre-quarterfinals. Vidyadhar fought back from 9-11 to 12-12 in the decider, but Anand, seeded fifth, played a tactically sound game, to emerge triumphant 21-13, 19-21, 21-15 in seven minutes less than an hour.
