BANGALORE: Secretary, Kannada and Culture, I.M. Vittala Murthy on Friday expressed displeasure over the rejection of Karnataka's tableau for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. "It is unfortunate that our tableau has been left out of this year's list by the Defence Ministry's tableau committee. I have written to Information Commissioner K.V.R. Tagore to ensure that such a thing does not happen in the future," he told The Hindu on the sidelines of a function organised to unveil the statue of 16th century freedom fighter Rani Abbakka. "I have asked the Information Commissioner to have a clear concept and discuss it with experts before finalising the theme from next year. The tableau committee, which screens and approves the tableaux, rejected this year's theme of our tableau on Channapatna toys because the concept did not reflect the national theme," he said. Pointing out that the committee had initially suggested some changes in the tableau, Mr. Murthy said that it was unfortunate that it was rejected later. Though the Information Department had come out with three concepts on Rani Abbakka, Channapatna toys and Mysore Janapada for the tableau this year, it finalised Channapatna toys because it pertained to children.
