KOCHI: The mystique of Indian spices continues to draw people to Kochi. A group of tourists from Australia visited the Spices Board office on Saturday to know more about spices they are so familiar with and yet have never grow. Ian Hemphill, an expert on spices, said the 19 members of the team were on their first visit to India. The tour was a fortnight long, beginning with Rajasthan. The group visited Kochi and nearby areas on Friday and Saturday and will move on to Kumily to see some spice plantations. From there, they will go to Mysore and Bangalore, said Mr. Hemphill. Sreekandan Thampy, deputy director, Spices Board, welcomed the group at the board office. The visitors interacted with the board official for an hour on the use of spices and their cultivation. They also took a look at some of the designer containers made from coconut shells at the board office.
