Oriya classics in SPAROW film fest

BHUBANESWAR: The Oriya film industry has a reason to rejoice.

Oriya classics Klanta Aparanha (Tired Afternoon) by acclaimed filmmaker Manmohan Mahapatra and Ahalya (The Words of Silence) by Bijoy Ketan Mishra have been included in the ongoing `One River, Many Streams' feminist film festival in Mumbai.

The five-day festival is being hosted by Mumbai-based SPAROW Trust (Sound and Picture Archive for Research on Women).

Renowned actress Shabana Azmi inaugurated the event on Friday, informed Mr. Bijoy Ketan Mishra, who is in Mumbai with his film.

Besides, Mr. Mishra and Mumbai-based Oriya actress Bijaya Jena (Dolly Jena) were invited as special guests for the concluding ceremony.

The other entries to the festival included Assamese films Agnisnaan (The Ordeal) by B.N. Saikia, Adajya (The Flight) by Santwana Bordoloi, Firingoti (The Spark) by Jahnu Barua, Manipuri films Ishanou (The Chosen One) by Aribam Syam, Khonthang (The Echo) by Oken Amakcham, and Sanaketheil (Golden Market) by M A Singh.

"This is a rare honour for the Oriya film industry at the national level," Mr. Mishra said over telephone.
