HASSAN: In an accidental fire, 40 barrels of petrol said to have been stored illegally in a rented house in Singarapatna, about 6 km from Hassan, exploded on Thursday night gutting three houses. The loss due to the fire, which was doused after about five hours, is estimated to be over Rs. 20 lakh. Three haystacks were also destroyed. Hassan MLA H.S. Prakash informed district in-charge Minister H.D. Revanna about the incident. Mr. Revanna directed the Additional Superintendent of Police to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident and to take stern action against those storing petrol illegally.
Meeting
The Minister said that he would convene a meeting of officers of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. and the Food and Civil Supplies Department on Saturday. He also directed the police to conduct raids on hotels and other places where illegal activities were going on. Mr. Revanna also directed the police to conduct a detailed investigation into the death of seven members of a family in Hassan on Thursday.
