BANGKOK: Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont on Saturday called for cooperation from all sections to restore peace in the south. Mr. Surayud was chairing a meeting on a government programme to improve life in the troubled region, according to the Thai News Agency. He said solving the unrest was a national agenda and that his Government would try its best to create a better understanding between the Buddhists and the Muslims. Peace must prevail before economic and communication developments could be implemented. Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat are the three southern border provinces plagued by violence related to insurgency which has claimed nearly 2,000 lives since it resumed early 2004. Xinhua
