Commissioner honours members of the public and rewards police personnel

Coimbatore: The Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, C.K. Gandhi Rajan presented rewards to police personnel for good work, besides honouring three women and a man for supplementing the efforts of the police, at a function held at the Uppilipalayam Police Community Hall, here on Saturday.

A briefing session was organised to train police officers on how to brief policemen everyday morning in the roll call, to make them perform better.

Performance

The performance and efficiency of every jurisdiction could be fine tuned, and the locality made crime-free, if roll calls were carried out with professionalism and sincerity, rather than as a mere ritual, Mr.Gandhi Rajan said.

The session on Saturday was for police officers and personnel from the Coimbatore Central sub-division comprising Gandhipuram, Race Course and Sai Baba Colony police stations.

The model briefing sessions had already been completed for Coimbatore West sub-division, and it would be organised for Coimbatore East and South sub-divisions shortly.

The Deputy Commissioners of Police, K. Shanmugavelu (Law and Order), R. Tamil Chandran (Crime), S.V. Karuppasamy (Headquarters) and others took part.

The police commissioner gave away 210 rewards to 187 police personnel for their efficiency, result-oriented performance and sincerity in crime detection, recovery, law and order maintenance, route bandobust during VVIP visits, and efficient traffic regulation work.

Some of the officers and personnel had even bagged two or three rewards, said the Assistant Commissioner of Police, K. Kumarasami (Law and Order - Central), Coimbatore.

Special rewards for best law and order maintenance and crime control in the West sub-division went to the Assistant Commissioners of Police, R. Chakravarthy (Law and Order) and S. Jayapandian (Crime) while Race Course Police Inspector, Soundarrajan bagged a prize for efficient station in the Central sub-division.

Prizes

Public participation and co-operation was of paramount importance for successful policing, Mr.Gandhi Rajan said while handing over mementoes and cash prizes to Anisha Stellas and R. Jemima (Fourth year B.E. Students) for bravely chasing and nabbing a chain snatcher with the help of the public in Town Hall area at 3.30 p.m. on January 22.

Similarly, J. Surya (22), a working woman, was honoured with a cash reward for boldly chasing two persons who snatched her gold chain weighing two-and-a-half sovereigns on January 17, in R.S. Puram area.

Besides chasing them for nearly two kilometres, she had alerted the police instantly and remembered the appearance of the accused to enable the police to arrest them, besides recovering the chain with ease.

Helping police

P.J. Prabhu was honoured for being instrumental in helping the police in apprehending a gang of two-wheeler lifters.

With his help, two-wheeler mechanics involved in the theft of 12 motorcycles were arrested and two-wheelers valued at Rs 3.68 lakhs were recovered from them.
