Bidar: The Government will take steps to ensure that cooperative sugar factories pay dues for sugarcane to farmers in time, Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur has said. He told presspersons here on Friday that officials would inspect sugar factories and khandsaris to verify their claims that they were running at a loss. Officials would also check if the factories had a lot of unsold stock. Allegations that some factories were cheating farmers by miscalculating the weight of sugarcane supplied would also be investigated, he said. He denied allegations that the State Government's policies were the reason for factories making losses. It was false to say that the Government had not permitted the sale of sugar. The Government had issued permission to each of the three factories. But they had failed to sell their sugar, he said. The factories should stop blaming the government for everything, he said. Some factories had said that they would pay the dues only after the Government clarified its stand on loan waiver. "I urge them not to mix up the issues of loan waiver and payment to farmers," he said. The Karanja reservoir would be completed by March, the Minister said.
