GUNTUR : Officers in the general insurance public sector companies have decided to go on an agitation if the Government did not resolve their long-pending demand of filling vacant posts through promotions. At the State-level annual general body meeting and conference of the bOriental Insurance Company Officers' Association here on Saturday, the Association's all-India president J. Cyril said 20 per cent of the officers had taken voluntary retirement and Government was not filling up those posts leading to excessive work pressure.
Future problem
Those from the lower cadre must be promoted to higher cadres on a fast-track basis through some tests and examinations otherwise seven years from now a large number of officers would be retiring and the four companies would then be not able to fill high-level vacancies. He congratulated the Government and IRDA efforts in their detariffication of motor insurance and third party insurance industry pool created from January 1 had created a level-playing field between the private and PSU general insurance companies. The claims outgo in this segment was in the ratio of 1:3 compared to premium collection as it had some social objective.
