Le-chatelier enters semifinals

Madurai: Santhosh Gopi's 75 helped Le-chatelier Cricket Club defeat Richards CC by eight wickets and enter the semifinals of the Alagiri Birthday District-level cricket tournament here on Saturday.

The scores (quarterfinals): Richards CC 96 in 19.5 overs (Manikandan four for 12) lost to Le-chatelier CC 97 for two in 14.4 overs (Santhosh Gopi 75); Oliva CC 111 for seven in 20 overs (Jeya Prakash 45) lost to Arasaradi CC 114 for four in 14.5 overs (Doss 40 not out, Kirubakaran 45); TVS Srichakra CC 114 for seven in 20 overs (Srinivasan 40, Siddarth 40) bt Pykara CC 94 for eight in 15.2 overs, rain stopped play, TVS Srichakra won on run rate; Majestic CC w/o Mercury CC.

Mahendran triumphs

G. Mahendran of Chennai won the title in the eight-annual Tamil Nadu State Chess championship for the visually handicapped at Madurai on Saturday.

Final standings: 1. G. Mahendran 5/5; 2. B. Raj Kumar 4.5; 3-8: S. Sankar (Mdu), S. Nagendran (Che), S. Bagyaraj (Che), P. Varadarajan (Mdu), P. Senthil (Mdu), G. Karuppasamy (Mdu).

S.S. Manigandan of Dolphin Matriculation HSS won the boys' u-25 title in the State-level open chess tournament at Madurai on Friday.

Coronation Football Club was held to a goalless draw by Arasan FC in the DDFA `B' division league at Dindigul on Saturday.

Big win for PSNA

PSNA Football Club posted an emphatic 4-0 win over Dudley FC, while St. Mary's Club trounced Solar Football Club, Nilakottai 5-0 in the DDFA Nursery league at Dindigul on Saturday.

Vijay scores a hat-trick

A hat-trick by Vijay helped Tuticorin Port Sports Council defeat Friends Football Club `A' 3-0 in the Tuticorin District Football Association `A' division league at Tuticorin on Saturday.

Mukunth triumphs

M. Mukunth of SBOA Matriculation HSS won the junior boys' singles title in the second stag-inter-school table tennis tournament at Madurai on Friday.

The results: All finals: Junior boys: M. Mukunth bt M. Riyaz (TVS LMHSS) 11-3, 13-11, 11-4.

Cadet boys: M. Feroz bt M. Santhosh 11-9, 11-5, 11-6. Mini cadet boys: S. Bala Krishnan bt Tarun (TVS) 11-6, 11-3, 11-7.

Varun wins title

Varun Chakravarthy of Erode won the cadet boys' singles title in the fourth annual State-level table tennis tournament at Dindigul on Saturday.

SIT posts win

Sathyabama Institute of Technology, Chennai, beat Gandhigram Rural University `B' 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 in the four-team league of the Dr. T.S. Soundaram Memorial Trophy State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament at on Saturday.
