GO 610: no Zone VII in A.P., says House panel

Hyderabad comes under Zone VI; Education Department faulted

HYDERABAD: The House Committee on implementation of GO 610 has made it clear that there is no Zone VII in Andhra Pradesh under the Presidential Order as well as the Girglani Committee report.

The panel, which met here on Saturday under the chairmanship of N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, faulted the School and Higher Education Department for treating Hyderabad as Zone VII in filling of vacant posts. The meeting, after discussions with officials, unanimously expressed the view that Hyderabad was part of Zone VI.

The officials quoted a GO issued in 1975, which mentioned that there were seven appointment units. Members of the committee contested their stand, and said all GOs had become null and void after the Presidential Order came into force. They pointed out that the Girglani Committee had said Hyderabad was part of Zone VI.

The meeting endorsed the Government's action in repatriating 808 teachers working in Ranga Reddy and neighbouring Telangana districts, as recommended by the last House Committee on GO 610. Members wanted identified non-locals working in Excise Department to be repatriated.

A list of non-local officials working in the Municipal Administration Department was submitted to the committee.

T. Harish Rao (TRS) wanted the 808 teacher posts to be filled under the supernumerary quota even as officials contended that there was a ban on fresh recruitment.

He charged Education Department officials with trying to cause confusion by creating Zone VII.

Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy told reporters later that "Zone VII" should not be used henceforth.

He said the meeting felt that Hyderabad was part of Zone VI and it should not be treated as a separate unit.

The committee would meet on February 9 to review more issues.
