HYDERABAD: The Joint Council of Action comprising organisations of both teaching and non-teaching staff in aided colleges on Saturday took out a rally demanding scrapping of the Government Order banning recruitment in aided institutions.

About 2,000 lecturers and staff took part in the rally from Ramnagar Crossroads to Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Bagh Lingampally, holding placards and raising slogans on the demand.

The rally culminated in a public meeting at Vignana Kendram.

Leaders of the Affiliated College Teachers' Association, Junior College Employees' Association and Andhra Pradesh Aided College Non-Teaching Staff Association denounced the Government for banning recruitment in aided colleges. They felt it amounted to `natural death' of aided colleges in the State.

Government warned

They warned the Government that if the GO was not withdrawn they would be forced to adopt non-cooperative attitude in conduct of annual examinations and valuation of scripts.

Among those who addressed the gathering was G. Sridhar Reddy, convener of the council.

The leaders also raised several other demands including implementation of GO on payment of salaries on the first of every month, payment of arrears, rectifying defects in rationalisation and regularisation of services of all part-time lecturers.
