KOZHIKODE: Markaz Ssaquafathil Ssunniyya, the Sunni cultural centre in Kozhikode, has organised the marriage of 29 orphaned and destitute women as part of the programmes in connection with its 13th convocation ceremony to be held from February 9 to 11. This was announced here on Saturday. The marriages were held in two sessions. Fourteen were held in December at the Markaz Majul Family and the rest on Friday at the Markaz Maranchatty Girls orphanage in the presence of Sunni leaders and religious leaders. Sunni leader Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musaliar inaugurated the mass wedding programme at a function presided over by Markaz president Fazal Pookoya Thangal on Friday. George M. Thomas, MLA, was the chief guest The Sunni cultural centre has been taking take care of orphaned women. Nearly 700 destitute and financially backward girls are studying at the Markaz Girls orphanage, which was founded in 1994. Expenses for their food and clothing are met by the centre. Besides the convocation ceremony, the 29th anniversary of the Sunni Markaz Centre would also be celebrated from February 9 to 11, it was announced on Saturday.
