CARIBBEAN WALTZ: Marlon Samuels turns one during his aggressive 98 against India in the third Pepsi Cup ODI at Chepauk on Saturday. The West Indies won by three wickets.
Chennai: Skipper Brian Lara and the flamboyant Marlon Samuels orchestrated a three-wicket victory for the West Indies over India in the third Pepsi Cup ODI at Chepauk on Saturday. India leads the four-match series 2-1. Samuels (98 off 95 balls) batted with solidity and flair after paceman Ajit Agarkar jolted the West Indies early, removing Chris Gayle and Runako Morton. And the busy 127-run fourth wicket partnership between Samuels and Lara (83 off 88 balls) took the game away from India. Earlier, comeback opener Robin Uthappa sizzled, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid consolidated, but India lost its way to be dismissed for 268 after being inserted. Pace bowling all-rounder Dwanye Bravo triggered the Indian collapse, picking up four wickets for 39 runs. The 21-year-old Uthappa's blistering 70 consumed just 41 balls. The innings was sustained by Tendulkar (60) and skipper Dravid (57), who added 106 for the fourth wicket in 19.1 overs. India, subsequently, stumbled.
