Malabar Mahotsavam begins

KOZHIKODE: Minister for Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan inaugurated the Malabar Mahotsavam, organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council along with the Kozhikode Corporation and the District Administration, at a function on the beach here on Saturday evening.

Mr. Balakrishnan said the Government would bring out a tourism calendar including all local tourism festivals. The Malabar Mahotsavam would have a special place in this calendar. The organisers of such festivals should concentrate on conducting these festivals at a specific time every year, he said.

A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, presided. P.M.A. Salam, MLA, and Mayor M. Bhaskaran spoke.

Noted personalities in the field of art and culture will take part in the festival. Ghazal singer Chandan Das will give a performance on Sunday. A fusion music programme by composers Balabhaskar and Stephen Devassy will be held at 6.30 p.m. on Monday.

Singer Mohammed Aslam will perform at the `Rafi nite' accompanied by a `25-Piece Orchestra' on the beach on Tuesday. The `Deepak Dev Show - Music Nite,' a special music programme directed by composer Deepak Dev, will be held on Wednesday. Singers Vineet Srinivasan and Rimi Tomy will attend the programme.

Kathak dancer Anuradha Singh Bhopal will perform at the Tagore Hall here at 6.30 p.m. on Monday. A Carnatic music concert by Vayyankra Madhusoodhanan at the Jaya Auditorium on Tuesday and a Hindustani music concert by Mahalakshmi Shenoy Karkkala on Wednesday will be the other programmes.

Folk arts will be performed at the Mananchira from Sunday to Wednesday. A seminar on `Development of Malabar' will be held at the Town Hall on Monday. The District Kalaripayyat Association will organise a `kalaripayyattu' show at the Indoor Stadium at 6.30 p.m. on Monday.

Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty will inaugurate the valedictory function on the beach on Wednesday.
