KOLLAM: The Muslim Employees' Cultural Association (MECA) has demanded special recruitment for a section of the minority communities who were kept away from the recruitment exercise for the defence forces. Excluding minority community candidates from the recruitment was a violation of the Constitution. A special recruitment should be included in the revised 15-point programme announced by the Prime Minister for the minority communities, said MECA president M.A. Samad in a statement here on Saturday. He said some forces were trying to stall the 15-point programme of the Prime Minister. Strong action should be initiated against them. In order to ensure that the intended beneficiaries get the benefits of the schemes announced by the Centre, the State Government should constitute a portfolio for minorities as well as a Secretariat-level department. The trend to transfer officers belonging to a particular community from the State Secretariat should come to an end, said Mr. Salam. The MECA welcomed the measures initiated by the Government against the forces trying to foment trouble in the State in connection with the visit of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to the State.
