KOLLAM: Three persons were killed when they fell into a septic tank on Saturday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Biju, 32, Raghavan, 36, and Raghavan, 45. Two other workers were admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. They are in a critical condition. One person is under treatment at Kottarakara Taluk Hospital. The incident occurred at a brick kiln at Njaayapally colony at Veliyom, near Kottarakara. The workers were shifting waste from an old septic tank to a new one. In order to overcome the foul smell, they poured kerosene and a chemical into the old tank. This caused a chemical reaction and production of a poisonous gas. Two of the workers who inhaled the gas swooned and fell into the tank. A third worker who jumped into the tank to rescue the two also got trapped. Seeing this, three other workers also jumped into the tank. A case has been registered.
