Gujarat ready to share gas: Modi

Staff Reporter

Ridicules State for failing to tap gas

  • Says gas reserves discovered by GSPC is a national treasure
  • Questions the rationale behind the State holding talks with naxals

NELLORE: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has said that his Government is ready to share the offshore natural gas reserves found by the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) in the Krishna-Godavari basin with Andhra Pradesh.

Ridiculing the State Government for its alleged failure to discover huge natural gas reserves in its very own territory, Mr. Modi said that a small entity like GSPC was able to strike natural gas worth more than Rs 1 lakh crores. "The Andhra Pradesh Government, has, however, failed to discover it. But I have told Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy that the Gujarat Government is ready to share the gas reserves with Andhra Pradesh as well as other States since it is a national treasure," he said.

    `Gujarat example'

Coming down heavily on the State Government, Gujarat Chief Minister wondered how the Congress Government could hold talks with naxalites, who were perpetrators of violence from Pasupati (Nepal) to Tirupati corridor. "When I was touring in Assam, many people have brought the vexatious issue of infiltration from Bangladesh. But I have categorically told them to be decisive while dealing with such issues and had explained them in detail how I have created a kind of fear psychosis among neighbouring Pakistanis, who dare not resort such kind of activities in my State," he said.

    Ready for debate

He dared the Centre, Congress, Left and regional parties ruled States to come for a debate on development. He claimed that these States could never compare themselves with BJP-ruled States on the development flank.
