Crowning glory for Chittoor artiste

Staff Reporter

Pannuru Sripathi

HYDERABAD: For a 63 year-old artiste from a small village near Tirupati in Chittoor district who was known in his circles for his Thanjavur paintings, getting the Padma Shri was like a crowning glory.

Pannuru Sripathy, to whom Hyderabad is now home, is known as much for his awards as he is for giving free coaching to about 1,000 youngsters interested in traditional drawing and painting. Apart from conducting special programmes at the Salarjung Museum, Ravindra Bharathi and the Shilparamam here, he has also trained people in programmes at Berlin and other places.

The artiste is widely travelled and has participated in several programmes abroad.
