Talks with MPTCs

HYDERABAD: The Government has invited for discussions on January 28 at 1 p.m. representatives of the Andhra Pradesh MPTCs' Association and its 39 demands, including release of more funds and sanction of additional powers. The venue is yet to be decided, said Y. Babu Rajendra Prasad, association president on Saturday. He said the invitation had come from Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy. - Special Correspondent

Plea to extend date

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Teachers' Union has sought extension of last date from January 31 by another 15 days for submission of study certificates by teachers for ascertaining their local status under GO 610. In a representation to Chief Secretary J. Hari Narayan, general secretary A. Lakshman wanted the extension, as records were not available in several schools. - Special Correspondent

Transco plan

HYDERABAD: AP Transco CMD Rachel Chatterjee has said a sum of Rs. 1500 crores will be spent this year to strengthen transmission and distribution network in the State. Speaking at Vidyuth Soudha after unfurling the national flag on Republic Day on Friday, she said the initiatives taken earlier had brought down the T & D losses to 18 per cent from 19.2 per cent. - Special Correspondent

Diabetes meet

HYDERABAD: The second national conference of the Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group India (DIPSI) will be held at the Ramoji Film City on February 10 and 11. In a press release, P.V. Rao, professor and head, Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, said over 400 physicians and obstetricians from across India and abroad would participate. - Staff Reporter

3 killed in accident

MAHABUBNAGAR: Three persons were killed and two others injured critically when an unidentified vehicle hit their motorbike at Malleboyanapally village, near Jadcharla town, on NH-7 on Saturday.

The victims have been identified as Gopal Goud, Naresh Reddy and Mallesh. Yadagiri and Naresh, the two injured were shifted to OGH at Hyderabad. - Correspondent

Auto drivers strike complete

CHITTOOR: The auto drivers strike on Saturday, protesting against fixing of digital meters, was complete in Chittoor town. The auto drivers, led by CPI town president Nagaraj, took out procession from the Gandhi statue on Prakasam Road to the Collector's office and staged a dharna. The leaders then presented a memorandum to Collector S.S. Rawat. — Correspondent

3,693 liquor bottles seized, one held

KADAPA: Excise officials arrested Viswanath Reddy, owner of Viswam Wines, and seized 3,693 non-duty paid quarter liquor bottles from his residence in Yellatur village in Pendlimarry mandal.

The liquor of Bagpiper brand seized is Rs. 1.50 lakhs, said Excise Circle Inspector V. Chandrasekhar Reddy. Pendlimarry excise officials registered a case. — Staff Reporter

Police told to intensify vigil

KURNOOL: Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy asked police officers in the district to pay special attention to control crimes like illicit liquor, matka and flesh trade. Addressing the monthly crime meeting here on Saturday, he said policemen should be cautious in the wake of allegations of their links with the accused. He also asked them to intensify vigil at public places like bus stands. - Staff Reporter
