THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor R.L. Bhatia inaugurated the online application system of the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) on Saturday with a call to adhere to the principles of free and fair yardsticks in the selection process of candidates at all levels.

According to PSC sources, applications for select posts alone can be submitted online in the beginning, and eventually it will be extended to other posts as well. The PSC has made arrangements for the applicants to send their applications in the conventional forms also for all the posts in this phase. The applicants will receive the receipts of the application online as soon as they file the applications.

The inaugural function held at the headquarters here also marked the finale of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Commission.

The Governor said as the main recruitment agency that selected the right candidates for the Government and allied services, the PSC could strengthen its credibility only by pursuing a foolproof system in the process of selection.

Self-employment agencies

Law and Youth Affairs Minister M. Vijayakumar, who presided over the function, announced that the State Government was planning to start block level `self-employment exchanges' under the Youth Welfare Board. About 500 persons would be posted for training the youths in each block panchayats to undertake self-employment schemes.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed in his keynote address said the PSC would be able to discharge its duties effectively only if the Government quickly reported the vacancies to it. The Government should also provide adequate infrastructure and manpower support to the Commission.

Mr. Ahamed said the Commission should take remedial steps if there were genuine complaints that some sections of society were not being given adequate representation in the Government services.

Pannian Raveendran, MP., Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, MLA., PSC Chairman K.V. Salahuddin and Secretary P. Sivajadas spoke.
