Apeejay School steal the show

NEW DELHI: A team of four students of Apeejay School at Sheikh Sarai here has won the Future Cities India-2020 Competition.

Inspired by the US-based National Engineers Week Future City Competition, the contest was organised by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology and Bentley Systems to make India's young minds think about ways to deal with the country's infrastructure needs.

The objective of the competition was to provide a complete road plan for the Commonwealth Games-2010 in Delhi.

Eight schools took part in the competition.

Sheila inaugurates cricket ground

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated a newly developed cricket ground at Government Senior Secondary School in Bharat Nagar here on Saturday.

The ground, developed by the Directorate of Education, Department of Sports, is equipped with floodlights for day-and-night matches.

Ms. Dikshit also inaugurated a match between the Chief Minister's XI led by Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely and the Chief Secretary's XI led by Chief Secretary Ramesh Narayanswami.

A large number of cricket lovers watched the match.

Foundation stones for MCD projects laid

NEW DELHI: The Congress MP from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar, laid the foundation stones for three Municipal Corporation of Delhi projects in South Delhi on Saturday.

An MCD primary school and a community centre will be constructed at Madanpur Khadar at an estimated cost of Rs.64 lakhs and Rs.70 lakhs, respectively.

Also, 10 additional rooms will be constructed at an MCD primary school building in Molar Bandh. It will cost Rs.61 lakhs.

Municipal school building inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma inaugurated a municipal primary school building at Brij Puri in East Delhi on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Councillor Ramesh Pandit expressed the hope that children from the weaker sections of society would benefit from the opening of the school.

He also lauded the municipal officials for completing the construction work six months ahead of schedule. The school building, constructed at the estimated cost of Rs.1.3 crore, is spread over 4,550 sq. m.
