CHENNAI: An exhibition focussing on the use of Indian language computing for the printing and lithography industry will be held in the city from February 2 to 4. The event will be organised at Valluvar Kottam by Kani Thamizh Sangam, an association for Tamil computing and the Madras Printers and Lithographer's Association. The exhibition is titled `Thamizh kanini acchu' (Tamil computer print) and will see participation from major printing and publishing industry people. The expo will showcase the printing and publishing needs of language computing and developments in digital technology. A daylong conference, to be held on February 3, will focus on issues such as optical character recognition, print-related information technology, digital media developments and e-paper with an aim to improve awareness among printers, publishers and students of printing. Subjects to be discussed in the two-session event include font engineering, recognising handwritten characters, growth of digital printing, colour controls for offset printing and digital hardware.

Entry to to the expo and conference is free. Organisers have proposed to construct 78 language computing stalls with participation from companies such as such as Microsoft, Intel, HP, Xerox Corporation and Autodesk. For details, contact 24355564 or visit www.kanithamizh.in.
