CPI seeks judicial probe

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Expressing shock at Friday's collapse of a residential school in Surat resulting in the death of several children and injury to many others, the Communist Party of India has demanded a judicial inquiry.

Pointing out that the structure was built only last year, the central secretariat, in a statement, said, "There was "a cynical disregard for the safety of a building constructed for Adivasi children."

The probe should cover the work undertaken by the architect, the engineer and the contractor and those who certified its construction.

"They must be brought to book. Adequate compensation should be paid to the families of the children who died, and those who are injured should get full medical relief."
