School bus catches fire

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Over 30 school children had a providential escape when their bus caught fire at Hauz Khas here on Saturday.

According to the police, the school bus, running on compressed natural gas (CNG), suddenly caught fire near the Chiragh Dilli flyover around 2-50 p.m. It was ferrying students of Delhi Kannada School at Lodhi Estate.

All the children escaped unhurt. The driver, however, sustained minor burn injuries.

It took three fire tenders over 30 minutes to douse the flames. The mishap caused traffic jams in the area for a while.

The fire was caused by a suspected leak in the gas cylinder, the police said.
