Steps to curb mosquito menace

KOCHI: The Corporation of Cochin has initiated steps to curb mosquito menace in the city.

Mayor Mercy Williams has requested the help of residents' associations, political parties, merchant bodies, NGOs and youth organisations in the endeavour.

Uncleared garbage heaps and pools of water where mosquitoes breed should be brought to the notice of health inspectors.

Residents' body backs initiative

KOCHI: The Ernakulam District Residents' Associations Apex Council has promised full support for the Corporation's activities to eradicate mosquitoes. The Council has sought immediate steps to resume fogging and spraying of saline water and insecticides into the drains. — Staff Reporter

Jacobite church hails decision

KOCHI: The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church has welcomed the Government's decision to permit its Bishops, priests and the faithful to hold prayers inside the Trikkunnath Seminary Church Tomb. Joint secretary of the Angamaly Diocese P K Paulose Kooran said in a press release that Jacobite Bishops were denied permission to pray in the tomb for 30 years. The Government has done justice to the Church, he said. Church secretary Thambu George Tukalan too has expressed happiness at the Government's decision. — Staff Reporter

Red Cross camp inaugurated

KOCHI: Ernakulam Range DIG Ravada Chandrasekhar inaugurated the concluding ceremony of the day-long camp organised by the District Youth Red Cross on Saturday at Sacred Heart College, Thevara.

Rebate on khadi products

KOCHI. The Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan at Pallimukku will offer a special rebate ranging from 20 per cent to 30 per cent on its products, in connection with Republic Day.

The rebate covers khadi, cotton, silk and woollen garments.

It will be on till February 13, said a press release issued by its manager.
