THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A total of 268 candidates were given job offers and 720 were short-listed for the final round at the two-day The Hindu Opportunties Fair 2007, which started here on Saturday. Cognizant Technology Solutions, the title sponsor, selected 50 candidates, the largest number in the IT sector. HCL BPO/ITES, which offered 75 jobs to freshers, came top in the ITES/BPO category. The following are the remaining companies that have extended job offers to the candidates: Seaview Support Systems 60; Makeidle Consultants 26; Wipro Infotech 18; Suntec Business Solutions 10; HCL Technologies 7; Saksoft 4; Marlabs 7 and Wipro BPO 7. Several firms have short-listed a large number of candidates for final selection. TnQ books and journals has identified 88 candidates for the final round of interview, to be held in Chennai in the second week of February. Sreekkanth A.V., manager, Human Resource, said: "We do not have fixed target on the number of candidates to be recruited. Apart from software trainees, we are looking for candidates with skills in pagination, graphics, quality control and data conversion," he said. Covansys, an associate sponsor of the event, is considering giving jobs to 23 candidates. With 180 candidates, Makeidle Consultants has short-listed the largest number of job seekers. NEST with a shortlist of 150 comes next. Tata Elxsi, which has narrowed down on 100 candidates, is the next in line. Patni has short-listed 25. Wins Infotech has zeroed in on 25 hopefuls in addition to the nine candidates who cleared the first round of interview. Of these nine candidates, two have cleared the Japanese Language Proficiency test. Accel Transmatic Ltd. and Envestnet have a list of 45 and 25 candidates respectively from which a final selection will be made. Representatives of many companies, including Cognizant Technology Solutions, Patni and Suntec, expressed satisfaction over the quality of candidates who attended the fair. On Sunday, the final day, the fair will focus mostly on candidates with work experience. The fair is held in association with Technopark. Around 14,000 candidates turned up on the opening day of the fair. Of this, an overwhelming majority, around 12,000, were freshers. Invitations in the fair had been issued to a total of 20,000 candidates.
