BANGALORE: Property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in a fire at three adjoining shops in Mahadevapura police station limits in the city on Saturday. The police said that around 10.30 a.m. fire broke out at a textiles showroom, a beauty parlour and a provision shop at DRDO complex in Kaggadasapura following electric short circuit. Four fire tenders battled for an hour to put out the fire. On a complaint by Sreenivasa Murthy, proprietor of one of the shops, the Mahadevapura police have registered a case.
Two killed
Two persons were killed in separate road accidents reported from the city and Bangalore Rural district on Friday. The police said an unidentified man aged around 35 was killed after being hit by a motorcycle near Bible College in Hennur around 10.30 p.m. Following the accident, the motorist abandoned the vehicle and ran away. The Banaswadi traffic police have registered a case. In the other incident, Prakashchandra Sharma (57) was killed in a collision between two multi-utility vehicles on Bangalore-Mysore Highway in Channapatna police station limits. The police said Sharma, a senior official at the Deputy Commissioner's office in Chamarajanagar, was returning to Chamarajanagar from Bangalore along with his family members. Sharma's daughter-in-law Veena suffered serious injuries and she had been admitted to a hospital in Mysore. Sharma had come to Bangalore to buy clothes and jewellery for his son's marriage, the police said. The Channapatna police have registered a case.
Recovered
The Kumaraswamy Layout police arrested three persons on charge of burglary and recovered from them gold ornaments worth Rs. 4 lakh. The names of the arrested persons were given as Rahamathullah (25) and Wajed (20), both residents of Masjid Street, and Tabrez (25) of 2nd Stage, Banashankari. In another case, the Ulsoor police arrested Lakshmi (30) of Domlur Layout on a charge of theft and recovered from her gold ornaments worth Rs. 40,000. She had stolen the jewellery from her employer's house, the police said.
Arrested
The Upparpet police on Friday arrested five people who were allegedly planning to waylay and rob people of cash and valuables. The police seized swords and choppers from the accused. The arrested were identified as Appu (22) of Gandhinagar, Ravi Kumar (25) of West of Chord Road, Raja Reddy (45) of Silver Jubilee Park Road, Ramu (39) of Tumkur district and Raju (25) of Mysore.
