KATHMANDU: The u nrest in Nepal continued for the 10th day with one more death on Sunday in a clash between the police and protesters at Kalaiya in Bara district, some 300 km from here. Violence also continued in the two major southern towns of Birgunj and Janakpur. Protesters, demanding amendment to the interim constitution, targeted media outlets and journalists. One group vandalised the Birjung Radio station and warned reporters not to file reports on the violent incidents. Some defied the curfew order and held daylong demonstrations at both places. So far, eight persons have died during the protests called by the Madheshee People's Rights Forum, which is demanding among other things, proportional representation system in the coming elections to the Constituent Assembly. However, the eastern town of Lahan, where the violence started, is returning to normality. Curfew was lifted in Lahan and Biratnagar. Both towns saw peaceful protests and goodwill rallies organised by seven parties.
