AU to check favouritism

UniversityRoundup

Andhra University administration has decided to put a check on some teachers who are liberal in awarding internal marks to their favoured students in the mid-term examinations.

Two mid-term examinations have to be conducted in each subject with maximum marks of 15 to be awarded in each examination. The average of two examinations is taken as the marks obtained in the internal examinations for a term.

But it is alleged that some teachers are awarding the maximum of 15 marks to some students to buy their favour. This is not only fair but also causing heartburn among other students who helplessly watch their classmates score better marks without much effort.

The administration in the past had issued a circular to all departments not to award maximum marks to the students in the internals undeservedly. Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy is reportedly concerned about non-compliance with this notice and another circular was sent to the teachers just before the internal exams held last week cautioning them of stringent action against those awarding maximum marks. It has to be seen what the teachers will do and how the V-C reacts if the rule is flouted.
