CONSECRATION: Arrangements for the Mahakumbabishekam of the Panchavatee Sri Panchamukha Anjaneyar Temple in Villupuram district near Puducherry in full swing.

VILLUPURAM: The Mahakumbabishekam of the Panchamukha Anjaneyar Temple at Panchavatee, situated on Tindivanam-Pondicherry National Highway, will be performed at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The five-faced main deity characterising Anjaneya, Narasimha (man-lion form), Hayagriva (horse form), Garuda (eagle form) and Varaha (boar form) stands 36 feet tall. Two other temples built on the same premises, Valamburi Maha Ganapathi and Pattabisheka Ramachandra Murthy temples, will also be consecrated at the same time.

The event will attract a large number of devotees from far and near, and hence, elaborate security arrangements will be put in place. Six days of yagnas being conducted by S.D. Rajam Bhattacharyar, S. Sowmya Narayan Bhattacharyar and S. Raghunatha Bhattacharyar precedes the kumbabishekam.

As part of the celebrations, Sri. Rambaba, an octogenarian from London, rendered the "Hanuman chalisa bhajans" on the temple premises on Sunday. The Panchamukha Sri Jayamurthi Charitable Trust, spearheaded by Brahmasri Ramani Anna, have made the arrangements for the kumbabishekam.

Sri Bharathi Theertha Maha Swamy of Sringeri Saradha Peetam inaugurated the construction work five years ago. The main deity was sculpted from single granite weighing 150 tonnes at Swarnam Silpa Kalaikoodam at Kelambakkm near Mahabalipuram.

The temple has been built as per Shilpa Sastras under the personal supervision of M. Muthaiya Sthapathi and M.S. Sivaprakasa Sthapathi. There has been a steady stream of devotees ever since the deity was installed.

The trust has made arrangements for distribution of prasadam to all the devotees on a daily basis. The temple premises also houses a Go-shala and quarters for devotees.

The Trust has also proposed to set up a Vedha patasala and a medical centre for the benefit of the poor. The temple could be accessed by road from Tindivanam (29 km) and from Puducherry (10 km).
