Plans in the pipeline to better facilities at tourist centres: Cherian Philip

MAKING A POINT: Kerala Tourism Development Corporation chairman Cherian Philip inaugurating the valedictory function of a three-day Tourism Club camp in Kannur on Sunday.

KANNUR: Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) chairman Cherian Philip has said that the KTDC will initiate steps for promoting tourism.

He was inaugurating the valedictory function of a three-day State-level camp of Tourism Club members here on Sunday.

Mr. Philip said the KTDC planned to introduce various facilities to ensure that the tourist destinations and the facilities were accessible to the common man. The tourism sector in the State required a policy that would give people an access to the facilities, he said. Mr. Philip said the present facilities at the major tourism destinations in the State were meant for foreign and domestic tourists.

The KTDC wanted to set up facilities that would allow tourists from the State to visit the tourist centres, he said. Plans were in the pipeline to start budget hotels, dormitories, affordable restaurants and parking spaces at the major tourist centres where the KTDC now had premium hotels, he added.

The KTDC chairman also said that dormitory facilities at the tourist centres would be made available for Tourism Club members in schools and colleges. They would also be allowed to stay at Yatri Nivas at concession rates, he added.

District Tourism Promotion Council secretary E.C. Raveendran was present at the function. The KTDC chairman distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions held as part of the camp.
