TDP to field more youths in polls

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The TDP is planning to give 40 per cent of the tickets in the next election to promising youth who display leadership qualities.

Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu said this while speaking to presspersons after signing his membership renewal form at his residence on Sunday.

It marked the formal launch of the party's membership drive that is taken up once in two years. The current campaign will last till February 11

and goes across 23,000 villages, 2,063 mandals and divisions, 294 Assembly constituencies and 23 districts.

Mr. Naidu said the focus of the drive would be to explain the `misdeeds' of the Congress and convince people and enlist them as active members of the party.

That apart, the party's leadership at the mandal, district and State-level was to identify and pick up active, existing cadres to don leadership roles. The criteria would be how accessible the prospective leader was to both the party members and the public, he said.
