Hydroelectric Power gets new chief

NEW DELHI: S. K. Garg has taken over as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Garg was holding the post of Director (Finance) and additional charge of CMD, NHPC.

A chartered accountant by profession, Mr. Garg has got three decades of varied experience in the country's top public sector undertakings including Indian Oil Corporation.

Prior to joining NHPC in 2003, Mr. Garg was executive director (Finance) in Indian Oil Corporation where he started his career in 1974 and worked in the areas of marketing, corporate finance, excise and customs, besides project appraisal.

CISF the best marching contingent

NEW DELHI: The Central Industrial Security Force's marching contingent led by Assistant Commandant Nagendra Sharma was adjudged "the best marching contingent" at the 58th Republic Day Parade this year.

The CISF marching contingent comprising one assistant commandant, three sub-officers and 144 other ranks emerged winner among several contingents of other paramilitary forces.

In the Parade, CISF sub-inspector D. N. P. Singh was awarded Kirti Chakra (posthumously) for his gallant action against naxal attack at Chhattisgarh.

Focus on education and media

NEW DELHI: A two-day-long seminar on "Education and Media" organised by Indira Gandhi National Open University concluded in the Capital on Sunday.

Speakers at the seminar recommended that Journalism Departments should include Educational Journalism in their courses. Also, it said that University Grants Commission, All India Council for Technical Education and other universities should institutionalise regular interactions with media persons and an in-depth study should be conducted to determine the educational content of media. In his address, V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, said media advocacy helps create a trained group of media advocates for education.
