Suryanarayana Reddy
Bangalore: The first time MLAs from Channagiri in Davangere district and Kurugod in Bellary district, Mahima Patel and Suryanarayana Reddy respectively have been given important positions equivalent to that of a Cabinet-rank Minister, apparently since they could not be accommodated in the Ministry during the recent expansion. Mr. Mahima Patel, son of the former Chief Minister the late J.H. Patel has been appointed the State's Special Representative in the national capital. Basavaraj Rayaraddi was the first Special Representative of the State during the tenure of the J.H. Patel Government and T.B. Jayachandra succeeded him during the S.M. Krishna Government. Mr. Rayaraddi is now in the Congress.
Mr. Suryanarayana Reddy has been appointed Political Secretary to the Chief Minister. This position was earlier held by K.H. Srinivasa when the late D. Devaraj Urs was the Chief Minister, B.L. Shankar when H.D. Deve Gowda was the Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai when the J.H. Patel was Chief Minister and N.S. Boseraju when N. Dharam Singh was the Chief Minister.
Thank Kumaraswamy
Soon after their elevation, both the legislators told The Hindu that they were thankful to the Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the party national president and the former Prime Minister Mr. H.D. Deve Gowda in giving them an important responsibility. Both of them were expected to take charge in the presence of the Chief Minister either on Monday or Wednesday. Mr. Mahima Patel had quit as secretary-general of the State unit of the Janata Dal (S) in a huff when he was denied a Cabinet berth during the last expansion. During the recent Ministry expansion too, Mr. Mahima Patel was left out since the party had to give a berth to the senior leader H.S. Mahadev Prasad.
