A fusion of dance and music

The Glass House at the Raj Bhavan came alive with vibrant dance and music presentations

Bangalore: Fusing of two different worlds and music through a fusion of Jazz and Carnatic music.

A union of Bharatanatyam and Yoga, a flute recital in myriad hues and a performance that blended several diverse dances and folk art forms.

The Glass House at the Raj Bhavan came alive on Sunday with the vibrant dance and music presentations that were part of the "Vyayanama Vybhava" programme organised by Doordarshan Kendra.

The cultural evening started with the beautiful rendition, "Jaya Jaya He Bhagavathi Surabharathi" by Anaga, a student of the APS School here.

Harmony

Carnatic musician Suma Sudhindra on the veena and jazz artist, Gerard Machado, with the strumming of his guitar created harmony through fusion. The music compositions, which mixed pure Carnatic with jazz, were interspersed with beats of the mridangam, the ghatam, drums, the tabla and the khanjira by the ensemble, called Megha.

The guests, including Governor T.N. Chaturvedi, Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi and judges of the Karnataka High Court, were also treated with a unique performance, "Surya Namaskara" by danseuse Vasundhara Doraiswamy and her troupe. The recital successfully blended the dance form, Bharatanatyam, with yogasanas to pay obeisance to the Sun God.

This was followed by a patriotic song by the staff of Raj Bhavan while artist Somashekhara transformed lyrics into a painting on canvas.

Melody magic

Music composer and flautist K.S. Rajesh, who is training under flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and his troupe created magic through melody, and finally artist Uday Kumar Shetty and his troupe presented a unique performance that blended Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Kathak, Odissi dance forms with the folk art form, Yakshagana.
