BHUBANESWAR: Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and seven others sustained injuries in a road accident on the outskirts of the capital city on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Patnaik escaped with bruises on his knee and elbow. The incident occurred at 3-20 p.m. near Gohiria Chowk on the National Highway No. 5, about six km from the city, when two youths riding a two-wheeler suddenly came in front of the pilot jeep of his cavalcade. As the pilot jeep braked suddenly, , the Toyota Innova in which Mr. Patnaik was travelling rammed into it from behind. Though the front portion of Mr. Patnaik's vehicle was badly damaged, he and Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani sustained minor injuries. Four policemen in the pilot jeep and the two youths on the two-wheeler were also injured. Mr. Patnaik, who was on his way to Jatani in Khurda district to address a party meeting for the coming panchayat polls, cancelled his trip and returned to the city. He visited the injured at the city hospital.
