BJP to go it alone in 2009 general election

Bifurcation of State to be the party's plank

HYDERABAD: The BJP has decided to go it alone in the 2009 general elections on the plank of bifurcation of the State.

The decision in this regard was near unanimous at the two-day brainstorming of senior leaders of the State BJP held here on January 24 and 25. It was felt that the party should contest polls independently to emerge as a political force, said BJP State president, B. Dattatreya.

He told reporters on Sunday that a struggle committee to spearhead the separate Telangana movement by BJP would be constituted shortly. Simultaneously, the party would mobilise public opinion on separate Andhra through meetings and conferences in coastal districts with the ultimate objective to launch an agitation for bifurcation.

The meeting finalised a three-pronged strategy aimed at creating awareness among people on ideological issues, strengthening the organisational network and waging struggles on anti-people policies of the Government.

`Chalo Assembly'

Mr.Dattatreya released the programmes of the party that were finalised at the meeting. They included `Chalo Assembly' during the ensuing budget session in support of scholarships to students and against price rise.

The party also chalked out a ten-day yatra demanding separate Telangana, over a distance of 250 km from March 15.
