Orissa bags Best Tableau award

Ministry of Culture's tableau declared second best, Maharashtra gets third place

NEW DELHI: The Orissa tableau depicting the rapid strides made by the coastal State was adjudged the best at this year's Republic Day parade.

The best tableau awards were presented by Defence Minister A. K. Antony at the Rashtriya Rangshala Camp in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.

While the Ministry of Culture's tableau on the theme "100 years of Satyagraha" was declared the second best, Maharashtra won the third best tableau award.

Each tableau had its own story to tell. The Central Public Works Department won the best theme award, while Orissa bagged another award for best music. The States of Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Orissa and the Central Public Works Department won the best fabrication award.

Both Orissa and the Central Public Works Department won the best presentation award, while Jammu and Kashmir won a consolation prize. The Central Public Works Department also won a special prize.

In the school children's cultural items category, Nagpur's South Central Zone Culture Centre was adjudged the best for its "Gedi Nritya", while the Capital's Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Shakti Nagar stood second for its popular theme dance "Aao School Chale". Dr. Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, President Estate, won the third prize for its puppet dance.

The South Central Zone Cultural Centre also won the prize for best music, while Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya won the best choreography award.

Thanjavur's South Central Zone Cultural Centre won the award for best costumes.
