An occasion to remember the past

Staff Reporter

ERODE: It was an occasion to remember the past, recall the path trod, outline the vision for the future and promise to realise the vision. And, this is what happened on Saturday at the Carmel Matriculation Higher Secondary School, which celebrated its silver jubilee.

When the past was narrated, the school had the fortune of sharing it with those who were then part of it - a few former teachers and alumni. And, while they outlined their vision for the future, they had a large number of eager parents and many residents listening carefully as to what the school had in store for them.

And, Fr. Xaviour and Fr. K. P. Francis did not disappoint any of them. The former said in keeping with the changing times where students had to compete globally, the school focussed on imparting overall personality development, analytical skills, communication skills and others that would help them compete well.

The Chief Education Officer, P. Kuppusamy, complimented the school saying it was one of the very few schools that a social responsibility. "I'm in the know of very few schools that help the poor get good education and one such institution is yours." Inspector General of Police C. Sylendra Babu also complimented the school for providing a good infrastructure.

Both the officers did not mince words in advising the parents not to pressurise the children for getting high marks. They said overall development was necessary and that in today's world academics alone did not help.

Mr. Babu said if students were interested in sports, parents should encourage them and provide all the support possible so that India was not deprived of good sportsmen and sportswomen.

Mr. Kuppusamy reminded the parents that ensuring the children studied well was not the task of only teachers but also parents. The Correspondent of Carmel Matriculation Higher Secondary School, John Thattil, Parent Representative V. Deepak Demble and Kasipalayam Municipal Chairman M. Subramaniam participated.
