Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have arrested three persons on charges of indulging in two-wheeler lifting and have recovered eight motorcycles worth over Rs. 8 lakh from them. Following frequent incidents of two-wheeler thefts from houses and parking lots in commercial areas, the Commissioner of Police, C.K. Gandhi Rajan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), R. Tamil Chandran constituted special teams.
Special teams
The special teams stepped up vehicle checks from dawn to dusk. During a vehicle check on Sunday morning on Saravanampatty Road, the police intercepted a motorcycle. On examination, the two persons Balaji (19) and Senthil (20) both from Annur were found to be vehicle lifters travelling on a stolen motorcycle. Based on their confession, Amsa of Annur was also arrested. From the trio, the police recovered eight motorcycles. The Saravanampatty and Karur police had registered cases in connection with the stolen motorcycles. Investigations also led to the modus operandi of the accused, wherein the duo used to lift motorcycles and park them in the parking lots at various places. They would hand over the keys and the parking token to the third accused, who would remove them and later sell it in other places.
