NEW DELHI: Agreements pertaining to cooperation in the oil and gas sector and also firming up projects for exploration, production and downstream activities are likely to be on the agenda of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Murli Deora, during his official visit to Liya and Yemen along with a high-level official delegation beginning this week.
Mr. Deora is accompanied by the Secretary (Petroleum), M. S. Srinivasan, the Secretary (Exploration), A. K. Jain, the India Oil Corporation Chairman, S. Behuria, the Oil India Chairman and Managing Director, M. R. Pasija, the ONGC Videsh (OVL) Managing Director, R. S. Butola, and Director (Commercial), Engineers India Limited, R. K. Saxena.
Bilateral meeting
In Libya, the Indian delegation will have a bilateral meeting with Shukri Ghanen, Chairman, National Oil Corporation (NOC) of Libya. Both countries are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which facilitate oil companies in firming up agreements in respect of specific projects in the exploration, production and downstream activities. The OIL-IOC consortium intends expanding its participation in the Libyan exploration and production sector where it has earlier won two exploration blocks. OVL is also exploring further exploration and production ventures.EIL is scouting for engineering and construction projects along the entire chain of oil and gas activities. In the second leg, Mr. Deora will lead the delegation to Yemen. Besides holding talks with the Yemenese Oil and Mineral Minister, Khalid Mahfoudh Bahah, for expanding cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector, the delegation is expected to visit the proposed site for downstream hydrocarbon projects like refineries and petrochemicals units.
