Staff Correspondent

Marks the entry of its truck business

  • To expand hydraulic manufacturing facility
  • Professional services centre beefed up

PUNE: Eaton Corporation of the U.S., a diversified industrial manufacturer, has announced the commencement of construction of its plant in Ranjangaon near here for medium and heavy duty truck tramission and components. The facility will be spread over 60,000 sq. ft. and will be completed by the end of the current calendar year.

The new plant will house machining, heat-treating and assembly operations and will employ around 120 people. Products will be sold domestically and will also serve Eaton's global truck customers. As a wholly owned entity, Eaton's India operations will be first truly independent commercial vehicle (CV) transmission supplier in the Indian market.

In the last 5-6 years, Eaton has transformed from a auto component manufacturer to a diversified industrial manufacturing with four main lines of business including electrical, fluid power, trucks and automotive. It is a global leader in electrical systems and components for power quality, distribution and control; fluid power systems and services for industrial, mobile and aircraft equipment; intelligent truck drivetrain systems for safety and fuel economy and automotive engine air management systems. Eaton is also expanding its existing hydraulics manufacturing facility here and will grow its electrical operations in Delhi.

"The Ranjangaon plant marks the entry of the company's truck business into India and will be the Eaton's second manufacturing facility,'' Alexander M. Cutler, Eaton Chairman and CEO, said while addressing the media here. The production capacity at Ranjangaon was mostly for exports to the U.S., Europe and "maybe some interface with Brazil,'' he said.

Work is on to ramp up production and increase testing capabilities at the hydraulics facility and the centre will be ready by the first quarter of 2008.

Mr. Cutler said the company is also expanding the Professional Services Centre and it will include engineering support, research, product development, financial shared services and other IT-enabled services.
