100 countries to take part in stone fair

Different varieties of stones to be on display

JAIPUR: More than a hundred countries are likely to take part in the fourth India Stonemart-2007 beginning here on February 1, for which the preparations are in full swing. The four-day event, being held at the Export Promotion Industrial Park , will showcase the Indian stone industry with all its relevant aspects.

Stone companies from across India and countries such as France, Germany, Turkey, Russia and China will display their products at the mart. Official pavilions have been set up for 15 States at the EPIP in the Sitapura industrial area on the outskirts of Jaipur.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will inaugurate the expo on January 31. The event is also expected to act as a launching pad for new products and technologies while concentrating on the aspects of resources, capacity, capability and technological advancements of the stone industry.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Development of Stones (CDoS), R.K. Gupta, said here on Monday that the stonemart would provide international exposure to the desert State's stone industry. Different varieties of marble, granite, sandstone, limestone and other decorative building stones, mining and processing machinery, tools and related services will be on the display at the exhibition.

The fair is being organised by CDoS in association with the FICCI, while the RIICO is the principal sponsor.
